Crisis Management
At Automaticity, we use the techniques developed by Professional Crisis Management. PCM offers a variety of interventions for the purpose of preventing and intervening in the event of a crisis.  PCM techniques aim to accomplish this goal as safely as possible with the individual’s best interest in mind.
First and foremost, PCM maintains that the preferred method of dealing with a crisis is to prevent it in the first place. For this purpose, PCM teaches crisis prevention techniques. Verbal strategies and nonphysical approaches are taken to prevent undesirable situations from arising. The fundamental rights every human is entitled to are specifically stressed as well as the right to chose.
During the Professional Crisis Management workshop, behavior analysts are taught what to do if a crisis cannot be prevented. The initial action would be to attempt to de-escalate the situation. Cognitive-behavioral interventions based on scientific procedures are proposed. These are verbal ways of de-escalating disorderly and violent conduct. The purpose of de-escalating a crisis situation is to prevent the possible need of having to physically intervene. Individuals who take the PCM workshop learn valuable ways of settling a crisis before it escalates. In the event that physical measures are needed in order to intervene, PCM participants are provided with pain free methods. Special techniques have been developed for children, adolescents, and adults. The PCM workshop also trains individuals how to communicate verbally after having used intervention methods. Counseling is implemented into every PCM session. Those who take the Professional Crisis Management course acquire the skills necessary to improve potential interactions that may result in crisis situations.
